" The Quiltie Ladies"
As a group, the Variable Star Quilters have grown together while maintaining their quilting individually. With strong roots in tradition, each proceeds at her own pace down the path to creativity. In every activity each seems to find the job best suited for herself, within her own level of expertise. This diversity is what bonds them together and offers support along with inspiration.
To spend time with the Variable Star quilt group is to share in a friendly, supportive, highly creative and exciting environment. As a friend to three, and participant in a quilting trip with the entire group. I am repeatedly in awe of their accomplishments both as individuals and as a group. Their monthly day long meetings in members' homes combines show-and-tell, problem-solving and the sharing of new ideas. Their better than average quilting ability is nutured by the responsiveness to and satisfaction in each other's accomplishment. It is their pride of accomplishment which has enabled them to have sixteen quilt shows to their credit, wth a seventeenth in November 2008. From each of their projects may others gain insight into the magic that piecing and quilting together has always worked on women: we all know that the completed quilt has often been secondary to the lives and friendships pieced right along with the calico and thread.
