" The Quiltie Ladies"
As a group, the Variable Star Quilters have grown together while maintaining their quilting individually. With strong roots in tradition, each proceeds at her own pace down the path to creativity. In every activity each seems to find the job best suited for herself, within her own level of expertise. This diversity is what bonds them together and offers support along with inspiration.

"OUR HOUSE" Variable Star Quilt Show 2006
Being raised in a family of 8 children (6girls/2boys) and both grandmothers
seamtresses - it was ineviable that we would learn to sew at an early age.
My mother (Nancy Coyle) taught all the girls to sew clothing, knit and crochet along with needlepoint and cross stitch which we did until we discovered boys.
I didn't start quilting until my early 30's. My mother had breast cancer and during chemo and the recovery talked about how much she missed quilting.
I found a cheaters quilt at the Rag Shop of Raggedy Ann and Andy - which she collected -and decided to make her one for that Christmas. I was hand quilting it still on Christmas Morning. Shortly after that she took me to a quilt store and I was hooked.
Wow a store just for quilters.
I no longer watch TV, still idle at the beach or pool, or sporting events for my 2 children.
I always have an applique block in my hand.
I just recently finished a quilt that was only worked on at Luke's swim practice/meets and Abbey's cheerleading practices/competitions.
Its strange how no matter how hard we try in our teens and early 20's -
we turn into our mothers.
